County sheriff’s report: Drug, cybercrimes rise
DeKALB – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to do more with less as it combats increasing drug and cyber crimes.
Drug arrests in every major category nearly doubled in 2011, while fraud and financial scam crimes have increased by more than 300 percent in the past decade with 107 cases reported in 2011, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s annual report.
This was the first full year the department operated with four fewer officers because of budget cuts, but DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the department was still committed to addressing the rising areas of crime in creative ways, such as the partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency.
