Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins may hinge on sales tax rebate
DeKALB – Whether DeKalb gets a Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins at the old Lukulos building will depend on whether the City Council approves a sales tax rebate.
At its Monday night meeting, the council heard arguments from the developer of the site as well as a rival business as to whether a seven-year, 50-50 sales tax rebate request should be granted.
Developer Steven Schwartz of Pearl Street Realty said the rebate would help cover the renovation costs of the building at 1101 W. Lincoln Highway. Schwartz is looking to divide the building into two or three retail spaces; he estimated the cost at $1.35 million. That rebate would amount to $125,000.
