LOCAL BRIEFS: Sycamore Middle School football camp next week

Sycamore Middle School football camp next week Football camp equipment for incoming Sycamore seventh- and eighth-grade football players can be picked up at Sycamore Middle School from 10 a.m. to noon Friday. Camp will be at the high school from July 16 to 19.

Four NIU women’s golfers earn academic honors Four Northern Illinois women’s golfers were named to the National Golf Coaches Association Division I All-American Scholar Team, NIU announced Monday.

Senior Kelsie Passolt, junior Allie Parthie and freshmen Taylor Ellett and Casey LaBarbera joined 581 other women’s golfers on the team.

To be selected to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and compete in at least 50 percent of the school’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Kish karate club members compete in AAU National Championships Three students from the Kishwaukee College Continuing Education Karate Club competed in the AAU National Championships over the weekend at Pheasant Run in St. Charles.

Bernie Ray and two students, Vince Long and Tabi Long, participated in the four-day tournament. Ray won four medals, three silvers (weapons, team fighting and forms) and one bronze in individual fighting. Long took silver in forms and bronze in team fighting. Tabi Long took silver in fighting.

Cobras 11U baseball team holding tryouts The Big Rock Cobras 11U baseball team is holding tryouts from 9 to 11 a.m. July 28 at Plowman’s Park in Big Rock. The 11U team – an independent organization that draws from Hinckley, Big Rock and the surrounding communities – is scheduled to play in three or four tournaments and a 35-game schedule in 2013.
