Classes canceled at Kishwaukee College on Monday

MALTA – A construction-related power outage cancelled Kishwaukee College classes Monday afternoon, according to college spokeswoman Kayte Hamel.

A contractor working in the north parking lot struck a power line around 1:30 p.m. while working with a back-hoe, causing power outages in pockets of the school. Classes after 2:30 p.m. were cancelled.

Monday's outage was the second for the college in five days. A water main broke last Thursday, and water got into power source and caused an outage. The two incidents are unrelated, Hamel said.
