SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man is being held in the DeKalb County Jail on $75,000 bond for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.
A police officer observed Christopher Diaz, 20, of the 800 block of Oak Street in DeKalb, walking down the street in the early morning hours Tuesday with an underage girl, according to court documents.
The officer asked Diaz about an injury on his hand that Diaz said came from a gang-related fight where two gang members tried to stab him, records show.
The officer determined that the girl was out after curfew.
The girl indicated that she met Diaz over the Internet three or four months ago and said they had consensual intercourse at least three times during the past three months.
She said she told Diaz she was 13 years old, and Diaz told the officer he thought she was 14 years old.
Diaz is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse with a victim at least 13 years old, but younger than 17 years old.
Judge Alan Cargerman determined that Diaz was at least five years older than the minor.
If convicted, Diaz could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.
He was appointed a public defender Thursday after appearing via closed-circuit television in the DeKalb County Courthouse. His next court date is July 19.
