No injuries reported
in train derailment

NORTHBROOK – A Union Pacific spokesman said a freight train has derailed and an 86-foot-long bridge over a stretch of road has collapsed in the northern Chicago suburbs.

Spokesman Mark Davis said 27 cars of a 138-car freight train derailed about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. The three-engine train was carrying coal from an eastern Wyoming mine to a utility in Wisconsin.

Glenview police responded to the scene near the borders of Glenview and Northbrook but did not immediately provide any information. Although no injuries were reported, Davis said some dry vegetation in the area caught fire. Union Pacific is investigating the cause of the derailment.
