SYCAMORE – The high-speed winds of Friday’s late morning storm caused a large portion of a rotting tree to fall, damaging a Sycamore house.
The homeowner, Elaine Sailor of the 400 block of east High St., was not injured by the incident.
She said she was checking on her windows in the bathroom to see if water was coming in when she heard a loud snap from outside.
She looked out her front room window and could see nothing but leaves and branches
“I came to the front, looked out the window and saw the tree was on my roof,” Sailor said.
Despite its large size, the tree inflicted relatively minor damage to the house. A Sycamore Fire Department official said there was no structural damage to the roof or utilities.
Workers from the Sycamore Public Works Department arrived to cut up the fallen tree. Bob Ray, supervisor for the department’s street division, said Public Works would remove the damaged tree and another one entirely.
The workers arrived at Sailor’s house just as the National Weather Service’s severe thunderstorm warning expired.
While the rain has subsided for now, the service is predicting slight chances of thunderstorms to hit the area every day until Wednesday.
