Genoa Food Pantry collection a success
To the Editor:
The Genoa-Kingston Food Pantry just participated in its sixth year of the Genoa Days parade to collect nonperishable food and money at a time of year when contributions are typically very low. We are happy to say that through these efforts we collected $698 plus seven grocery carts full of food.
The Food Pantry would like to thank the local businesses who were grocery cart sponsors: Dr. Jeffrey Caron, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, Country Financial, Edward Jones, Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists and Roberts Drive-In. Through their charitable sponsorship, the money collected will be used to purchase food for future distributions.
We greatly appreciate the onlookers who remembered to bring their food contributions and supported this worthwhile effort at the parade. We hope that in the years to come all others attending the parade will follow your lead and bring a dry/canned food item so the carts overflow. Your donations will help restock the shelves.
Last, but not least, the Food Pantry wants to thank all of the helpers from Cub Scout Pack 117 and Girl Scout Troop 1620 – these scouts, parents and leaders worked the parade pushing carts, carrying signs and gathering the donated food. Without our volunteers and especially our generous grocery cart sponsors, none of this would have been accomplished.
The Genoa-Kingston community is very giving and caring, evident by the success this year at the parade – to you we extend a heartfelt thank-you.
We look forward to seeing you at next year’s parade.
