Letter: Taxed enough already

To the Editor:

I was reading the different characterizations of the Tea Party by John Omerod in Thursday’s letter to the editor.

He says we are a “self appointed watchdog group.” No. We are grassroots. Made up of individuals from our community who cherish our freedom and respect the Constitution.

In DeKalb County we emphasize attending and getting involved with local city council meetings and county board meetings. Our principles are: Fiscal responsibility, limited government and free markets. And somehow John characterizes that as being “ultra-right fanaticism.”

We believe that spending our way into prosperity is not a good course of action for our state and federal governments. Living within our means is what we ask of our representatives in local, state and federal governments. We are not about Obama. We dislike policies that will permanently, or for the long term, destroy jobs and put us on the same path as Greece.

John Omerod has never been to our meetings. He has never engaged anyone of us in conversation. He knows little about the DeKalb County Tea Party and yet he characterizes us as if he knew us well. Our doors are always open, and the best way to get to know us is to have a conversation with our members and possibly attend a meeting.
