Pilot in plane crash identified

DeKALB – The Monee man who was killed in a plane crash near Rockford on Tuesday has been identified as 77-year-old Thomas Plodzien.

Plodzien was the only person in the single-engine plane that crashed six miles east of Interstate 39. The plane took off from DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport.

The Ogle County Coroner’s Office, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday; results have not been released.
