CORTLAND – A spokeswoman confirmed that FBI agents were in Cortland on Tuesday conducting an ongoing criminal investigation.
Special Agent Joan Hyde at the FBI’s Chicago office said she was unable to comment further on the investigation because no charges had been filed and no one had been arrested. She said these investigations are common, and there is no reason for the community to be concerned.
An official with the Cortland Police Department said law enforcement officials were looking for a person they thought to reside in the town, but it turned out the person was not there.
Cortland police said they were not involved with Tuesday’s search. Local support was provided by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Gary Dumdie, chief deputy at the sheriff’s office, referred questions to the FBI.
Several police were seen outside the Mobil Gas Station at 15 West Lincoln Highway. Employees there declined to comment.
