Last chance to apply for two state-assistance programs

DeKALB – Low-income seniors and people with disabilities have a final chance for property tax relief and prescription assistance before a pair of state programs shut down.

The state’s Circuit Breaker property tax grant program and Illinois Cares Rx pharmaceutical assistance will have no funding beginning Sunday, leaving those eligible five days to apply for what little benefits remain in each program.

The Illinois Department on Aging mailed more than 120,000 letters notifying people that if they apply for Circuit Breaker on or after Saturday, only the license plate discount, Seniors Ride Free and Disabled Ride Free benefits will be processed.
