Elgin man implicated 
in DeKalb holdup

DeKALB – An Elgin man was charged Monday in connection with a January armed robbery at a check cashing business in DeKalb.

Fernando D. Zavala, 38, of Elgin, is charged with aggravated robbery, a felony. At 11:12 a.m. Jan. 6, an armed robbery was reported at Check Into Cash in the 2300 block of Sycamore Road, according to a news release from the DeKalb Police Department.

A Hispanic man entered the business with his shirt pulled up and covering his mouth, police said. He displayed a handgun and left the business with property. The suspect was last seen leaving the area on foot.
