Illinois
changing cemetery oversight

DeKALB – The state has extended its role in the cemetery industry with stricter oversight including new licensing, certification and documentation requirements.

Starting July 1, cemetery operators must register their site with the state for a fee that is determined by acreage and burials per year. Under the new rules, all cemeteries must obtain a license to operate in Illinois or register as being fully or partially exempt.

Cemetery operators and all of their customer service personnel must pass a certification program and test to determine their knowledge of the industry before Jan. 1.
