Genoa business fire causes minor damage

GENOA – Multiple agencies responded Friday to a fire at a Genoa business that caused minimal damage.

Genoa-Kingston, DeKalb, Cortland, Kirkland, Sycamore, Burlington, Marengo, Hampshire and Cherry Valley fire departments responded to a fire just after 10 a.m. Friday at Cleary Pallet Sales Inc. on Genoa Road, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Gary Dumdie said the fire appeared to have been caused by machinery used for notching wood pallets. A spark that landed in a pile of wood shavings caused the fire, he said.
