SYCAMORE – Bond was set at $40,000 for a St. Charles man charged with trespassing on and attempting to enter a Kingston resident’s property.
Barth A. Gardner, 39, of the 41W800 block of Empire Road in St. Charles, was charged with attempted residential burglary, a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison; attempted burglary, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison; and criminal trespass to real property, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by not more than six months in jail.
He appeared in court Thursday via closed-circuit TV from the DeKalb County Jail.
About 3:30 a.m. Thursday, a resident of the 30700 block of Five Points Road in Kingston saw a man on his property. When the resident went outside to confront Gardner, he was lying down behind gas tanks behind the home, according to court documents.
Gardner said he was looking for water and left, walking east into a field. The resident noticed his barn door and cargo trailer door that had been closed were both open, reports said.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Gardner in the 9900 block of Baseline Road, according to court documents.
A rear-sliding door to a home on Baseline Road had been opened.
There also was a Kane County warrant for Gardner’s arrest on an aggravated assault charge.
He will next appear in court Tuesday.
