Letter: Don’t legislate immorality
To the Editor:
Sycamore Alderman Greg Taylor, in his support of gambling, said, “I don’t want to legislate morality. I don’t think it’s our job to prohibit something like this.” It is, however, the government’s job to protect the community from harmful activities, especially when victims are in the minority. Gambling revenue is always seen as free money, but anyone in business will attest free money does not exist.
As a Baptist chaplain and itinerant preacher, I agree with Alderman Taylor. You cannot “legislate morality” and, if that is so, why then should you legislate immorality?
