Most young musicians dream of taking their music on the road, riding a tour bus, and playing shows in far off cities. Fue, a DeKalb-based indie alternative rock band, will be living that dream when they join the 2012 The Extreme Tour in Albuquerque, N.M., on July 2.
The band will continue with the tour through Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa before returning to northern Illinois the first week of August. Fue was selected out of the nearly 400 bands who applied to be a part of the tour.
“We are so excited about going on our first national tour,” Joanna Rutzky, the band’s lead singer/keyboardist, said in a news release. “We’ve done several weekend trips, but this will be so much bigger. We are so humbled to have been selected out of all the bands who applied.”
Rutzky will be joined on the tour with bandmates Tim May, Isaac Flex, Abi Rutzky and Aaron May.
Fue began in 2009 as a group of friends playing together as part of Campus Ministries International. The band soon developed its own original sound and began to play festivals, churches, colleges and other venues throughout the Midwest sharing the positive message and energy of their music with a larger audience.
Fue has released three EPs, most recently “Fue Live at Elbo Room,” recorded during a February performance at this legendary Chicago venue. Fue was named one of the winners of the 2011 Cornerstone Festival’s New Band Showcase and the band was featured on the festival’s main stage.
Local fans will have one more chance to enjoy Fue live before they join the tour. A special fan send off show will be held at 8 p.m. today at The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. The band will appear with special guests SixSpeed and Lucrezio at this all-ages show. Doors open at 7 p.m. with a $5 cover charge.
