Schott: Finding the right gift for dad
With a week left, I’m still not sure what to get dear old dad for Father’s Day this year.
My dad, being my dad, typically says he doesn’t want much of anything. He doesn’t like getting books, because that’s what public libraries are for. If he wants a certain album or article of clothing, he likely has already bought it. I don’t like giving gift cards, because it seems so impersonal – although it is practical, which is a word that perfectly describes my pops.
I did score one year, with a T-shirt with a peach on it from The Allman Brothers Band 1972 album, “Eat a Peach.” He still has it and appears to like wearing it. My only regret on that gift is I didn’t buy one for myself too, because it’s pretty sweet.
