Dan Jones has resigned as the DeKalb High School athletic director to take the same position at Hinsdale Central High School, Jones told the Daily Chronicle on Tuesday.
Jones' hire was approved at Monday night's District 86 school board meeting. His last day at DeKalb will be June 29.
"I think it's an opportunity I have in my professional career to step up to a bigger high school," Jones said. "They have a lot more students, a little more than 2,800 students, some new sports that I'm going to get to learn how to administer like water polo and lacrosse. And what attracted me to the job to is that they are doing a lot of renovating and going through all of the construction here at the new high school, I think they were looking for someone with experience so I fit pretty well."
Jones, who said it was a very tough decision to leave DeKalb, was promoted to athletic director in 2005, replacing longtime director Art Rohlman. Jones said he hopes to have filled open positions for head varsity football coach and girls varsity head basketball coach before he leaves.
