Led by Vest, 6 Knights on All-NI Big 12 softball team
Kaneland had six players named to the all-Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference team, released Monday by the league, led by MVP Delani Vest.
Vest, a senior pitcher, sophomore outfielder Lanie Callaghan and freshman infielder Paige Kuefler were unanimous selections, while junior infielder Allyson O’Herron, sophomore infielder Hayley Contorno and senior catcher McKinzie Mangers were named to the all-conference team.
For DeKalb, sophomore outfielder Sarah Friedlund was a unanimous selection. Junior infielder Hannah Walter and senior catcher Alysha Guy also were named to the all-conference team.
Sycamore sophomore outfielder Taylor Jones and sophomore Jasmyne Taylor were named to the all-conference team.
Honorable mention players included: Sycamore’s Meranda Brashears and Abby Foulk, Kaneland’s Lexi Roach, and DeKalb’s Lindsey Costilow and Katie Kowalski.
Kalk to play football at Monmouth College
Sycamore’s Jordan Kalk has announced his plans to enroll at Monmouth College this fall and play football for the Fighting Scots.
Kalk, a linebacker, will play for coach Steve Bell. Now in his 13th year at Monmouth, Bell is the winningest coach in Fighting Scots’ football history and needs only six wins this fall to record his 100th career victory.
Kalk played on offense, defense and special teams this past season for the Spartans. He was named an all-Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference linebacker.
Crosby invited to Black and Silver Series tryout
John Crosby, a sophomore baseball player at DeKalb High School, was invited to a Black and Silver Series tryout on Monday. The Black and Silver Series is invite only, and those selected for the team will play in the annual Area Code Games in California.
