Akst: Stop the 'summer slide'
In pop culture, journalists are arrogant narcissists who are only in it for the byline and the book deal. Although this depiction isn’t (usually) accurate, I want my students to be aware of pre-existing, negative stereotypes about their would-be career paths.
However, Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl Who ___” series paints journalists fairly realistically, and all three books are great reads.
“So as you’re thinking about your summer reading lists,” I said, about to recommend them.
