Indian Creek and Hinckley-Big Rock each had an athlete qualify for next weekend’s Class 1A boys track and field state meet out of Friday night’s Seneca Sectional.

For H-BR, high jumper Billy Weissinger cleared 6 feet, 3 inches, to make it to the state meet. Indian Creek’s Jake Gullstrand finished second in the 400-meter dash in 51.08 seconds to qualify.

BASEBALL

Barbs win on senior day:
Patrick Aves was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a walk, and senior Mitchell Kennedy was 1 for 3 with a run scored in the DeKalb baseball team’s 4-2 win against Ottawa on Friday.

Corey Nelson got the win for the Barbs (15-15-1). He threw all seven innings, gave up four hits and struck out four.

“It was good to see the guys for senior day get a win,” DeKalb coach Jake Howells said. “Ottawa’s a good team and we turned four double plays today. It really puts you in a good position to win a game.”

Ottawa scored five runs in the seventh inning to beat Sandwich, 8-4. Jordan Kipper was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Indians (12-19). Morgan Murphy took the loss in the circle but went 2 for 3 at the plate.
