PREP ROUNDUP: Brown takes sixth in long jump at sectionals

DeKalb freshman Dre Brown took sixth in the long jump (20 feet) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.54) at Thursday's Class 3A Hononegah boys track sectional. The Barbs did not qualify any athletes for the state meet.

Dennes Spyratos took ninth in the pole vault at 10-9. Marc Dubrick finished in sixth place in the 3,200-meter run in 9:47.71 while Tyler Peterson was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.15).

DeKalb's 4x100 team of Dalton Bates, Dylan Hottsmith, Drew Paszotta and Brown took ninth at 44.78, and the 4x200 team of Bates, Adam Nooncaster, Mitchell Griesbaum and Paszotta was third in 1:31.04, just missing a place at the state meet by .01 seconds.

Kyler comes up short: Indian Creek freshman Chantel Kyler finished with a mark of 5 feet in the high jump in the preliminaries of the IHSA track and field state meet in Charleston.

Her mark wasn’t high enough to advance to Saturday’s finals.

Nelson leads Spartans past Marengo:
Sycamore pitcher Cole Nelson threw six innings, striking out 10 hitters in a 6-1 win against Marengo.

Clark O’Donnell finished 2 for 2 with three RBIs for the Spartans.

“Good overall game played by us,” Sycamore coach Jason Cavanaugh said. “We had a really big strike zone which made it difficult for our hitters, but defensively we played an excellent baseball game and we got good pitching on the mound.”

Knights get past Cary-Grove:

Offensively, Tyler Heinle was 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Knights, while Jake Razo went 2 for 4 with a double, run scored and two RBIs.
