Prep roundup: Spartans' Foulk shines in victory
Sycamore softball pitcher Abby Foulk struck out seven batters in a 1-0 shutout of Richmond-Burton on Tuesday. Foulk (6-10) gave up five hits and walked one.
At the plate, Meranda Breashears went 1 for 3 for the Spartans (14-19), leading off the game with a home run. Taylor Jones was 2 for 3.
“Abby did a great job working with zero margin for error. The defense played solid behind her, and Meranda made her big hit to lead off the game stand up,” Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. “We still need to do a better job of hitting runners in when we can get them in scoring position and bunching our hits together. This game just shows that it can be one hit that dictates the outcome and that great pitching and great defense can win games for you.”
BASEBALL
Knights earn crossover win: Kaneland beat Sterling, 9-3. Quinn Buschbacher was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Knights (21-9), and Jake Razo finished 2 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Joe Pollastrini was 2 for 2 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Matt Limbrunner got the win, giving up five hits and striking out three in six innings.
