Prep Roundup: G-K baseball sweeps Plano

The Genoa-Kingston baseball team swept a doubleheader against Plano on Saturday, winning the first game, 11-7, and the second, 7-6.

In the first game, Bobby Treadwell got the win for the Cogs (6-20). He threw a complete game, struck out one, walked two and six hits. Mason Lucca was 2 for 5 with a run scored. Treadwell had two doubles and three RBIs.

in the second game, Will Waugh got the win on the mound, striking out three and giving up six hits. Jake Langford was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Knights fall in extras: Kaneland lost to LaSalle-Peru, 2-0, in nine innings. Bryan Van Bogaert took the loss on the mound for the Knights (20-9). He threw two innings, struck out four and none of the two runs he surrendered were earned.

Spartans win big: Sycamore defeated Streator, 15-5, to move to 17-11 on the season. Matt Godinsky had four RBIs and Fred Beltrame and Nate Haacker had two hits apiece. Mark Barron threw three innings and got the win.

Barbs win in 5: DeKalb defeated Sterling, 12-1, in five innings. The Barbs are 14-11-1.


Cogs sweep doubleheader: In a doubleheader against Plano, Genoa-Kingston defeated the Reapers in the first game, 18-6, and the second game, 16-0. Danielle Engel got the win in the first game while Baylie Ullmark took the win in the circle in the second game for the Cogs (17-5).


Knights shut out: Kaneland lost to Burlington Central, 3-0. The Knights are 11-5-1 overall.


Barbs 5th at conference: At the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference meet at DeKalb, the Barbs finished in fifth place with 39 points. LaSalle-Peru won with 63. DeKalb's Matt Kulma finished second at No. 1 singles, falling in the championship match to Geneseo's Shawn DePauw, 6-3, 6-3.
