Bates resigns as DeKalb girls basketball coach
Ben Bates confirmed to the Daily Chronicle on Thursday night that he has resigned as DeKalb girls basketball coach. Bates was 49-12 in two seasons with the Barbs.
DeKalb won regional and sectional titles in 2012, losing to Bartlett in the Class 4A Elgin Super-Sectional.
Bates said he could not comment further on the matter at this time.
Howells earns ONU’s highest honor for athlete
Sycamore graduate Josh Howells was named a recipient of the 2011-12 Larry D. Watson Ambassador Award, the highest honor an Olivet Nazarene University athlete can receive.
Howells, a kicker and receiver on the football team, played in all 44 games in his four-year career. He finished with nine field goals, his longest being 47 yards, and 150 punts for an average of 37.8 yards. He also had 132 receptions for 1,533 yards and seven touchdowns.
