The Kaneland baseball team clinched a share of the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference title with a 4-2 win against Morris on Wednesday.
Trevor Storck threw a complete game, striking out seven and walking one while allowing six hits. Jake Razo was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Tom Fox was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Knights (19-8, 12-2 NI Big 12).
Kaneland can win the NI Big 12 title outright with either a win today at Morris or a Yorkville loss to Sycamore.
Spartans fall: Sycamore lost to Yorkville, 5-4. Relief pitcher Mitchell Jordan took the loss for the Spartans (16-10, 7-7 NI Big 12). Cole Nelson started and threw six innings and gave up two earned runs. Nate Haacker had two RBIs for Sycamore.
Barbs win in 5: DeKalb's Danny Petras went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and the Barbs beat Rochelle in five innings, 10-0. Jeremy Karasewski got the win on the mound for DeKalb (12-11-1, 6-7 NI Big 12). He struck out five and walked three.
Jared Johnson was 2 for 3.
"We played good defense today and I think offensively, we had tons of guys on base and we were able to take advantage of some walks," DeKalb coach Jake Howells said.
Bobcats score 38: Somonauk defeated Earlville-Leland, 38-1, in five innings. The Bobcats (23-3, 14-1 Little Ten Conference) scored 27 runs in the second inning.
Jake Morsch went 4 for 5 with a home run, three singles and five RBIs for the Bobcats.
"We put a lot of runs up in the series, but most importantly we are playing good team defense and pitching well," Somonauk coach Bob Honkala said.
Hawks lose heartbreaker: Hiawatha lost to Alden-Hebron, 6-5. Alden-Hebron scored four of its runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Tyler Burger went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Hawks. Hiawatha committed six errors.
SOFTBALL
Hawks win slugfest: Hiawatha beat Alden-Hebron, 13-8, to move to 12-12 on the season.
Pitcher Abby Turner got he win. She struck out six. Turner also went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Hawks.
Dani Clark was 2 for 3 with three stolen bases and four runs scored. Tatiana Spung was 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two doubles.
"It's a nice win for us," Hiawatha coach Todd McDillon said. "They had only lost to one other [Class] 1A team this year and that was Orangeville. Things seem to be clicking heading into regionals."
Spartans fall in 5: Sycamore lost to Yorkville, 11-1, in five innings. Taylor Jones was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Spartans (12-17, 3-6 NI Big 12). Meranda Brashears, Lyndsey Coddington, Jasmyne Taylor and Jordyn Shultz had one hit each.
GIRLS SOCCER
T'wolves fall in regionals: Indian Creek's season ended with a 4-1 loss to Aurora Central Catholic in the Class 1A Mendota Regional semifinals. The Timberwolves finished 5-9-1.
