Prep roundup: Barbs have no defense for Yorkville

The DeKalb baseball team lost to Yorkville, 6-4, on Monday.

Corey Nelson took the loss for the Barbs (10-10-1, 4-6 Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference). He gave up seven hits, struck out two and walked one in six innings.

Shaun Johnson was 2 for 3 with a double and Kevin Sullivan went 1 for 3 with two runs scored for the Barbs.

“We played hard,” DeKalb coach Jake Howells said. “Corey Nelson pitched and left some pitches up early. They’re really feisty and they continued to come after us all game. Every single time we made a defensive miscue they made us pay for it.”

GIRLS SOCCER

Cogs fall: Genoa-Kingston lost to Richmond-Burton, 6-0. The Cogs fell to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in the Big Northern Conference.

“Lauren Orozco played very well despite the lopsided score,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “She just never quits.”
