PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb badminton fourth at conference meet

The DeKalb girls badminton team took fourth place at the Independent Conference Meet with a record of 15-20.

The DeKalb team of Shistine Peterson and Jaci Nguyen took first at No. 2 doubles for the Barbs. Peterson and Nguyen finished with a 4-1 record.

“It was a pleasure to see them play consistently the way that they can,” DeKalb coach Duane Cowley said. “I’m really looking forward to them carrying that into sectional competition next week.”

Tristan Draper took third at No. 2 singles for the Barbs with a 3-2 mark.

SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL

The Indian Creek baseball and softball games scheduled Saturday at Plano were canceled, as was the boys track and field meet at Oregon, because of poor weather conditions.

Sycamore softball’s home doubleheader against Plainfield East and the baseball team’s doubleheader at Aurora Central Catholic were canceled.

The DeKalb softball home doubleheader against Belvidere North also was canceled.

FRIDAY’S LATE RESULTS

BOYS TRACK

Knights finish second: Kaneland had 99 points at the Crystal Lake Central Invitational, good for second place behind Belvidere North, which had 114.

Dylan Nauert won both the 100-meter hurdles (15.96) and 300 hurdles (40.96) for Kaneland.

The Knights’ 400 relay of Brandon Bishop, Brandon Cottier, Nauert and Sean Carter took first with a time of 43.84.

GIRLS TRACK

Barbs 2nd at Woodstock: The DeKalb girls track team was second at the Woodstock Invite with 82 points. Huntley took first with 101.

Kelsey Schrader took first in the 2 mile at 11:17, a personal record, and was second in the mile at 5:23. Jaylaan Slaughter won the 300 hurdles (47.28), 400 dash (58.47) and 100 hurdles (14.91).

Jasmine Brown won the long jump (16 feet, 7 inches) and triple jump (25-93⁄4).

Lake Kwaza had two first-place finishes for Sycamore, winning the 100 dash (13.83) and 200 dash (24.58).
