Adam Price threw a complete game, striking out 10 and walking only two in a 5-4 win for the Genoa-Kingston baseball team Tuesday against North Boone.
“Adam was absolutely phenomenal tonight,” G-K coach Josh Latimer said. “He was a gamer on the mound.”
With the Cogs (3-12, 1-2 Big Northern Conference) trailing, 4-1, going into the seventh, G-K clawed its way back and William Waugh drove in Eric Tucker with a hit to right field for the game-winning run.
“It’s just great that the kids never gave up,” Latimer said.
Matt Rasmussen went 3 for 4 with a run scored for G-K. Jake Langford was 1 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
T’wolves fall apart in 7th: Indian Creek lost to Somonauk, 16-6, after trailing 8-6 entering the seventh. Dillon Martenson was 1 for 2 and Tim Sommerfeld was 1 for 2 with an RBI for the Timberwolves (5-12, 3-5 Little Ten Conference).
“I thought we competed well for the first six innings,” Indian Creek coach Joe Piekarz said. “We played real hard and gave up too many hits.”
Somonauk (14-2, 6-0 LTC) was led by Jake Morsch, who had three RBIs, two doubles and two stolen bases.
Barbs lose in 10: DeKalb committed eight errors and lost to Morris, 6-5, in 10 innings. DeKalb (11-5, 3-2 NI Big 12) led, 5-1, in the seventh inning. Kaylin Kennedy took the loss in the circle.
Spartans fall to Rochelle: Sycamore lost to Rochelle, 3-2. Pitcher Abby Foulk took the loss for the Spartans (8-11, 1-4 NI Big 12). Meranda Brashears went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Taylor Jones was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Knights keep rolling: Delani Vest threw a complete game and struck out six in Kaneland’s 8-3 win against Yorkville. Paige Kuefler went 3 for 4 for the Knights (17-5, 5-0 NI Big 12).
Cogs earn win: Genoa-Kingston defeated North Boone, 7-1, to move to 11-5 overall and 2-1 the BNC. Danielle Engel got the win, throwing a complete game. Tori Hensley was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Hawks win in 5: Dani Clark went 4 for 5 with a triple, two doubles and two RBIs and Hiawatha defeated Rockford Christian Life, 17-2, in five innings. Tatiana Spung was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Hawks (6-9).
T’wolves fall in 5: Somonauk beat Indian Creek, 12-0, in five innings. The Timberwolves are 3-15 overall and 2-4 in the LTC. Somonauk (9-9-1) got a home run and four RBIs from Lauren Brummel. Indian Creek had just one hit and committed three errors.
Murphy leads Indians: Morgan Murphy had two RBIs and pitched a complete-game shutout in a 10-0, six-inning victory for Sandwich against Plano. Murphy struck out nine and walked none, while giving up just two hits.
The Indians are 8-11 overall and 4-2 in the Interstate Eight Conference.
Cogs lose high-scoring game: Genoa-Kingston got a goal from Rachel Ellstrom, Ashley Grimm and Vivana Beltran, but lost to Marengo, 5-3. The Cogs are 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the BNC.
“Today’s game was a good evenly matched game,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “The score went back and forth up until the end. We created and executed a couple of really nice combinations for goals.”
Knights drop Rochelle: Kaneland defeated Rochelle in a dual meet, 104-51. Brandon Cottier won the 200-meter dash in 23.3 seconds. Nate Dyer won shot put (47 feet, 3 inches) and discus (145-3.5).
Yorkville defeats Barbs: DeKalb lost a dual meet to Yorkville, 82-61. DeKalb senior Jaylaan Slaughter won the 100-meter hurdles (14.68 seconds) and 400 dash (58.2 seconds). Jasmine Brown won four events: long jump (16 feet, 7.5 inches), triple jump (35-5.25), 100 (13.1 seconds) and was a part of the 4x100 relay. Kelsey Schrader won the 800 run in 2:21.6 and freshman Holly Baker won the 300 hurdles in 54.8 seconds.
Knights win dual: Kaneland easily won a dual meet against Rochelle, 110-35. Ashley Castellanos won the triple jump (32-5) and long jump (15 feet).
Barbs swept: Plainfield North defeated DeKalb, 15-0. The Barbs won just five games total in the 15 matches.
