Police investigating shooting in DeKalb

DeKALB – DeKalb Police responded to a shooting early this morning that resulted in an injury that was not life-threatening to one victim.

Authorities were called about 4:30 a.m. to the scene of the shooting, which occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 800 block of Spiros Court in DeKalb.

The victim was a 24-year-old male who lives in the DeKalb area and is not a Northern Illinois University student. DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said the victim was shot in the hip and was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. He was later transported to a hospital in Rockford.

Spangler believes the victim and suspect had attended a party in the vicinity. The case is still under investigation and no suspect is in custody.

"We received very little cooperation from the limited amount of witnesses," he said. "We're still piecing it together."
