Prep roundup: Sycamore’s Ericson scores 4 goals in rout
Sycamore’s girls soccer team got four goals from Megan Ericson and the Spartans cruised to a 10-0 victory against Rochelle on Wednesday.
Sycamore (6-5-1, 3-1 Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference) scored seven goals by halftime.
“We made sure we got everything going quickly and tried to get the game to a good spot where we can sub some people out,” Sycamore coach Dave Lichamer said.
Knights win at tournament: At the West Aurora tournament, Kaneland defeated East Aurora, 3-0. Madi Jurcenko scored a goal for the Knights (3-3), and Katie Taylor had an assist.
BASEBALL
Hawks lose in 5: Somonauk defeated Hiawatha, 14-3, in five innings. Somonauk’s Jake Morsch had a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Somonauk is 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the Little Ten.
“We got good pitching, but I’m still looking forward to the day we cut down on errors and mental mistakes,” Somonauk coach Bob Honkala said.
Hiawatha (3-7, 0-2 LTC) committed eight errors. Nick Doolittle went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Royals lose steam: Hinckley-Big Rock lost to Newman Central Catholic, 14-6. The Royals (5-9) trailed by two after five, but Newman Central Catholic took over in the late innings. Dutch Schneeman took the loss.
He threw five innings, gave up 10 hits, walked one and allowed six earned runs. The Royals are 5-9.
GIRLS BADMINTON
Barbs fall by one: DeKalb lost to Bolingbrook, 8-7. Brooke Wilson won at No. 3 singles, 21-15, 21-17. Shistine Peterson won at No. 4 singles, 12-21, 21-13, 21-14.
“We continue to play very close matches, and we’re not always able to close those out,” DeKalb coach Duane Cowley said.
