PREP ROUNDUP: Bradburn, bunts send H-BR past IC

Cory Bradburn threw a complete game and struck out 12, and Hinckley-Big Rock scored four runs on bunts in a 10-1 win against Indian Creek on Monday to open Little Ten Conference baseball play.

Mitch Ruh went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Royals (4-8, 1-0 LTC), while Luke Winkle was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.

“Great pitching, but the big thing is we were able to execute, getting good bunts down,” H-BR coach Matt Olson said.

Indian Creek fell to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the LTC.

Knights win in 5: Tom Fox went 3 for 3 with five RBIs, and Jake Razo was 2 for 2 with four RBIs as Kaneland started its defense of the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference title with a 15-2 win against Rochelle in five innings.

Drew Peters allowed five hits and struck out eight with no walks for the Knights (7-5, 1-0 NI Big 12).

SOFTBALL

Kuefler leads Knights: Paige Kuefler was 4 for 4 with two doubles and six RBIs, and Kaneland defeated West Aurora, 10-3. The Knights (13-4) had 15 hits. Allyson O’Herron was 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Alexis Villarreal got the win. She pitched five innings and gave up six hits.

T’wolves take loss: Indian Creek lost to Mendota, 12-3.

Murphy strikes out 15 for Indians: Sandwich defeated Westmont, 6-3, to move to 5-11 overall and 1-1 in the Interstate Eight Conference. Morgan Murphy struck out 15 and walked two for the complete-game win.

GIRLS SOCCER

ACC handles IC: Aurora Central Catholic defeated Indian Creek, 3-0.

GIRLS BADMINTON

Barbs beat McHenry: DeKalb defeated McHenry, 11-4. Jaci Nguyen won at No. 1 singles, 21-19, and Tristan Draper won at No. 2 singles, 21-18, 16-21, 22-20.
