PREP ROUNDUP: Four Barbs score in victory over Dixon

DeKalb's girls soccer team got balanced scoring in a 5-0 win against Dixon on Thursday.

Rachel Butler scored twice and had an assist, Abby Hickey had a goal and an assist and Alli Smith had a goal and an assist for the Barbs (2-1-1, 2-0 Northern Illinois Big 12).

"Just a real good team effort, solid possession game," DeKalb coach Phil Rouse said. "We came out really fast and didn't let up the entire game. Just a real positive match overall."

Maddie Krmenec added a goal to complete the scoring for DeKalb.

Sycamore loses on road: Sycamore lost at Geneseo, 2-1, to fall to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in NI Big 12 play. Michelle Doran scored the Spartans' goal on an assist from Emma Norris.

"It was a very hard-fought game on both sides," Sycamore coach Dave Lichamer said. "It was a good physical matchup, good speed of play. Geneseo was talented, as were we. It was a good matchup."

Knights lose at tourney: At the West Aurora tournament, Kaneland lost to West Aurora, 1-0, in the opening game. Kaneland is 1-3.

BASEBALL

Errors cost Knights:
Kaneland committed six errors in a 7-1 loss to Hononegah. The Knights are 5-5.

SOFTBALL

Spartans fall to Foxes:
Abby Foulk gave up no earned runs on three hits, but Sycamore lost to Yorkville, 6-1, to fall to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in NI Big 12 play. Foulk struck out five and walked two.

Hawks lose high-scoring affair: Hiawatha took a 13-9 loss to Belvidere. Abby Turner got the loss in the circle for the Hawks (5-4) but went 3 of 5 at the plate. Tatiana Spung was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Ashley Tamraz was 2 for 3.

GIRLS TRACK

Cogs 3rd at Stillman:
Genoa-Kingston placed third at the Stillman Valley Invite, scoring 58 points. Boylan won the meet with 191 points.

Leading the way for the Cogs was Samantha Kottmeier, who won the 100-meter dash in 13.75 seconds. Danielle Neisendorf won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches. Kottmeier was third in the long jump with a leap of 14-5. Brianna Kramer was third in the 300 low hurdles in 54.14 seconds and third in the 100 hurdles in 17.66 seconds.

GIRLS BADMINTON

Barbs lose nail-biter:
DeKalb lost to South Elgin, 8-7. The Barbs had to forfeit two matches.

"That was my fault. We forefitted two spots," DeKalb coach Duane Cowley said. "I could have pulled a junior varsity player up and it would have made a difference and turned into a victory."
