Mitchell Jordan went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs as the Sycamore baseball team cruised to a 27-4, five-inning victory Tuesday against IMSA.
Jordan got the win on the mound for the Spartans (2-2). Matt Godinsky added a home run. Nathan Haacker was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Clark O’Donnell went 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs.
“It was a good game to finally get our offense going,” Sycamore coach Jason Cavanaugh said. “All of our pitchers threw strikes. We had been having trouble throwing strikes from the mound. We got a lot of people significant playing time today.”
Indians defeat Bobcats: Mitch Brummel hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to pace Sandwich in a 14-8 victory against Somonauk.
Jeffrey Woods got the win on the mound after striking out eight and walking seven.
Leading the way for Somonauk (5-2) was Cody Blue, who went 1 for 2 with a home run, three RBIs and a walk.
“We couldn’t hold the lead late and didn’t deserve to win,” Somonauk coach Bob Honkala said.
Sterling upends Spartans: Pitcher Abby Foulk gave up five runs on five hits and struck out two, and Keri Treml gave up three runs in 32⁄3 innings in Sycamore’s 8-4 loss to Sterling.
“If we could remove one defensive inning there would have been a different outcome to this game,” Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. “We need to capitalize more on our scoring opportunities. We are finding ways to get on base, but we need someone to come up with the big hit. We had a chance to break it open in the first inning but couldn’t get it done and good teams like Sterling will find a way to make you pay for that.”
Meranda Brashears was 1 for 4 with a double for the Spartans (3-4). Claire Koertner went 1 for 1 with a double.
Barbs win dual: DeKalb defeated IMSA, 4-3, in a dual meet at DeKalb High. At No. 1 singles, Matt Kulma picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win. Phil Henricksen won at No. 2 singles and the No. 3 doubles team of Chuck White and Jake Maas also won.
“IMSA has a strong program, so this bodes well for our team,” DeKalb coach Lance Gackowski said.
DeKalb upends Oswego East: DeKalb got a flurry of wins in singles play to defeat Oswego East, 11-4. Shistine Peterson, Jaci Nguyen, Sandy Morales and Theresa Nguyen were among the winners in singles play for the Barbs.
