White Sox rally from 4 down to defeat Brewers

PHOENIX – Randy Wolf wasn’t too upset that he gave up most of a four-run lead. He was facing a White Sox lineup with few recognizable names, after all.

“I don’t have the overpowering stuff like some guys, so I work on feel,” Wolf said after the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Sox, 6-4, Saturday. “It is kind of hard trying to read their swings.”

First-year manager Robin Ventura left most of his regulars back at the Sox’s camp, which gave him a chance to get a longer look at some youngsters.

Tyler Flowers began the fifth inning for the Sox with a homer off Wolf, and the White Sox scored two more times in the inning.

Tyler Saladino had an RBI triple in a two-run seventh, and Saladino singled in a run in the ninth.

Right-handed reliever Brian Bruney pitched 2 1⁄3 hitless innings for the win.

“He has done real well. He has a good idea of what he wants to do, spots the ball well and throws strikes,” Ventura said.

Chris Sale gave up eight hits and four runs – three earned – in 4 2⁄3 innings.

He pitched six scoreless innings in his previous start.

“He looked pretty good. It was good for him to continue to stretch out and get those innings,” Ventura said.

Wolf gave up three runs – two earned in 5 2-3 innings for the Brewers. He struck out four.

Wolf is 3-0 in five starts this spring with a 3.26 ERA in throwing 191⁄3 innings.

He went 13-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 33 starts for the National League Central
division champions last season.

He is pleased the way things have gone thus far this spring.

“I’ve had a lot of innings so far,” he said. “Historically, I have been pretty poor in the spring and the command hasn’t always been there. I’m stretching it out now. I worry not so much about the pitch count, but getting up and down with the innings. My rhythm is way better.”
