Asbestos forces junior high to close for year

NORMAL – Asbestos contamination forced a junior high school in Normal to close for the rest of the school year.

Unit Five School District will close Chiddix Junior High School. The Illinois Department of Public Health has recommended sealing 10 classrooms and extensive air tests.

More than 600 students will be off of school until Tuesday. That’s when students will restart classwork in spare classrooms at another location.
