WHEATON – A suburban Chicago basketball coach and substitute teacher has been charged with sexually abusing a student.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Steven E. Reynolds of Hinsdale has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a student at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park.

The sheriff’s office says the inappropriate contact occurred Jan. 28, at Reynolds’ home. The incident became known when the alleged victim disclosed the alleged contact to her friends, who told school officials.

Authorities say Reynolds had inappropriate contact with the student on multiple occasions over the past several weeks.

In a statement, District 230 Superintendent James Gay commended the people who brought the alleged abuse to the attention of school administrators. He refused to offer further comment.
