Northern Illinois men's basketball coach Mark Montgomery announced in a news release Wednesday that Todd Townsend will remain on staff as an assistant coach.
“Todd comes highly recommended from numerous coaches throughout the country,” Montgomery said. “Having been a former player at a championship level at Marquette he is able to relate well to our student-athletes. Todd has a tremendous work ethic and is very knowledgeable about the game. He has outstanding recruiting ties locally and throughout the midwest that are an asset to our program and I am very pleased to have Todd staying on at Northern Illinois."
Townsend has been with the Huskies for the past two seasons.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to remain at NIU and be a part of coach Montgomery’s staff,” Townsend said. “I have enjoyed my time in DeKalb and I am thankful for the opportunity stay. I look forward to working with coach Montgomery and being a part of building a championship program here at Northern Illinois."
Townsend is the second assistant Montgomery has hired. He announced the hiring of former Dayton assistant Jon Borovich on Tuesday.
Townsend has been a member of the NIU staff for the past two seasons. Before coming to DeKalb, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Northeastern University, followed by one season coaching and playing professionally in Sweden.
