Prairie Flower: Goodfellows Christmas fundraising efforts

To the Editor:

The Goodfellows of DeKalb/Sycamore kicked off the holiday season Dec. 2 at PJ’s Courthouse Tavern & Grille with the annual fundraising party to raise money to purchase clothing for children in need in the DeKalb/Sycamore area.

PJ’s provided a snack buffet that was wonderfully delectable. Our thanks to the restaurant for all it does.

There was a tremendous turnout of generous individuals who donated nearly $16,000 to help bring smiles to the faces of the children in need in our area.

The Goodfellows wish to thank the business people who donated door/raffle prizes for the event. Entertainment was provided by the Footstompers and the Distractions, whose music put everyone in the holiday spirit. Jolly old St. Nick took time out of his busy schedule and made an appearance at the party as well. It was great to see him again.

A special thank you to the Daily Chronicle for its generosity in advertising the fundraiser. The Daily Chronicle also visited the Blumen Gardens warehouse, where the elves were busy sorting and wrapping the gifts. There was also a feature on the Goodfellows on the front page of the paper on Christmas Eve morning. Thank you so much for everything you do for Goodfellows.

J.C. Penney and Sylvia Crownhart again did a magnificent job in selecting the gifts for the children. Our hats are off to you.

Christmas Eve morning, the community came together at Blumen Gardens and delivered the gifts to the children. Although it was a snowy, slippery morning, this did not stop them from coming out and taking part in the delivery. Our community has much to be proud of.

Thank you to all who participated in and assisted with the Goodfellows project for Christmas 2010.

May each of you have a safe and happy new year.
