Prairie Flower: Ellwood House Holiday Deck the Halls

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Ellwood House Association board, I would like to extend our appreciation to the businesses, organizations and individuals who made the Ellwood House Holiday Deck the Halls another successful holiday celebration at the museum.

With their help, the Ellwood House Association was able to bring the beauty of the Ellwood mansion and the atmosphere of an old-fashioned holiday to many hundreds of visitors from near and far.

Special thanks to the businesses, organizations and individuals who decorated the many rooms and areas: Altrusa International of DeKalb/Sycamore, Brandie and Lori Barrett, Tracy Coyle and friends, Cracker Jax, DeKalb Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, DeKalb Area Garden Club, DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, Edward Jones, Kishwaukee College Floral Design Club, Kohl’s, Lynessa Stein, National Bank & Trust Company, Resource Bank Classics, Schnucks and Target. DeKalb Park District staff festooned the
portico of Ellwood House with lighted garland and plowed the sidewalks and parking areas for visitors.

I also wish to thank my dedicated staff who worked many extra hours over the past month: coordinator of visitor services Donna Gable and curator Rebecca Nickels.

Thanks to EHA volunteers who guided in the mansion, cashiered and served refreshments: Lois Anderson, Pat Barger, Mary Bell, Cheryl Brauer, Crispin Brim, Bessie Chronopoulos, Gerry Clucas, Pam Collins, Richard Cooler, Pat and Tom Conway, John Cox, Lydia Daffenberg, John Diedrich, Scott Does, Bernard Engh, Carme and Larry Gregory, Bruce Gregg, Lynette Hallauer, Kathy Hallgren, Ronna Heinig, Chris and Kathy Hubbard, Ellyn Jacobsen, Judy Jobe, Jerry Johns, Pat Johnson, Ed and Karen Kuhn, Steve Latimer, Nancy Leonard, Leora Little, Patsy Lundberg, Larry Lundgren, Monna Mayeda, Sarah McHone-Chase, Pat McKinley, Shirley Nehring, Allie Norgord, Jill Olson, Sharon Rhoades, Ken Rodd, Gary Skinner, Armande Vasilopoulos, Kate Volk, Nicole Weydert and Andrew Yohanan.

We also thank the groups and individuals who performed holiday music: Alin Cernaianu, Colin Clauson, Kishwaukee Brass, Natalia Megru, NIU Suzuki Strings, Northern Illinois Cello Ensemble and Diane Toomey.

Our appreciation to the EHA members who baked holiday cookies to serve to our visitors: JoAnne Fox, Kathy Hallgren, Elaine Johansen, Corinne Kirschbaum, Karen Kuhn, Glenda Lundgren, Shirley Nehring, Donna Nilles, Sharon Rhoades, Millie Sulaver, Dorothy Thorsen, Mary Beth Van Buer, Mary Waight, Nicole Weydert and Norma Wildenradt.

The Ellwood House Association and the DeKalb/Sycamore communities are fortunate to have so many wonderful individuals, businesses and organizations committed to serving our area and its people through their volunteer service.
