Prairie Flower: Santa in DeKalb

Published: Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

Celebrate Downtown DeKalb would like to thank everyone who took part in welcoming Santa to town Dec. 2.

A couple hundred children and their families welcomed Santa with wide eyes and excitement as he arrived in downtown DeKalb by the way of a snow plow.

Santa Comes to Town has become a tradition for many DeKalb area families and is made possible, in part, by the generous support of National Bank and Trust, who is the presenting sponsor of Hollydays in Downtown DeKalb.

Many thanks to the following businesses who donated cookies and cocoa for those in attendance to enjoy while listening to the DeKalb High School Madrigals perform in the lobby of the Egyptian Theatre before Santa’s arrival: Café 900, Kishwaukee Community Hospital, the Lincoln Inn Family Restaurant and Bakery, the Neighborhood Bakery and the Voluntary Action Center.

We also would like to thank the DeKalb fire, police and public works departments; Mayor Kris Povlsen; the Egyptian Theatre; the DeKalb High School Music Department; and all of our hard-working volunteers for their participation in making this year’s Santa Comes to Town event a great evening for the community.
