SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois primary is going back to March.

Gov. Pat Quinn plans to sign legislation at the state Capitol on Wednesday to move the primary back to the third Tuesday in March.

March is when Illinois primaries typically were held. But lawmakers moved it up to February so the state could help President Barack Obama's election bid in 2008.

The move back to March will give candidates more breathing room.

This year's Feb. 2 primary came just weeks after the holidays when few people pay attention to politics.
