Northern Illinois has confirmed that redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Rogers has transferred from NIU. Rogers’ destination is unknown at this point, but he has left the NIU program.
Rogers was redshirted in 2008, his first year on campus. At Tulsa Union High School, Rogers was an Oklahoma Football Coaches Association first team All-State selection. He threw for 2,565 yards and 25 touchdowns his senior year. Rogers struggled at times with the Huskies but did show improvement in spring football. NIU also has two incoming freshman quarterbacks in A.J. Hill and Jordan Lynch, a sophomore starter in Chandler Harnish and a sophomore backup in DeMarcus Grady.
Rogers could not be reached for comment.
NIU has also confirmed that linebacker Zach Larsen and offensive tackle Tony Holmes have left the team but have not transferred. Larsen played in five games last season and recorded four tackles. Holmes played in four games last season and was a backup tackle. Holmes and Larsen would have been redshirt seniors on the 2009 team.
