Sycamore announces Hall of Fame inductees

Sycamore High announced its 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees on Tuesday.

Ron Fox (soccer, Class of 1989), Stacey Maurer (basketball, 1999), Josh Schmitt (football, 2003), Brad Horton (soccer, 2008) and the 1958 football team will be recognized at the school’s Hall of Fame football game on Sept. 18 against Kaneland. They will be formally inducted on Sept. 19.

Fox, Maurer, Schmitt, and Horton left the school as the all-time leading scorers in their respective sports.

Fox had 44 career goals and was an all-conference player in basketball and baseball his junior and senior year. Maurer left Sycamore with 1,290 points and was a three-time team MVP. Schmitt rushed for 3,456 yards and scored 34 touchdowns.

Horton was a 2007 High School All-American and holds school records for career goals (98), career assists (47), goals in season (43), assists in a season (20), consecutive games with a goal (19) and hat tricks in a season (8). He completed his freshman season at Northern Illinois with a team-high six goals and also three assists.

The 1958 football team went undefeated and shutout five of the eight teams it played, giving up only 27 points all year. The Spartans outscored their opponents 217-27 and was a part of the school's longest winning streak of 33 wins in a row.
