Barbs to be guests of Milwaukee Bucks
DeKalb High boys basketball coach Dave Rohlman said on Friday that he is "90 percent sure" that his team will be the guest of the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, Feb. 28 for the Bucks' game against the Washington Wizards.
Plans are still being finalized, but the Barbs are expected to meet the NBA team before the game and then get honored at halftime of that Saturday's game, which will be played one day after the Barbs finish their regular season with a home game against Rochelle.
The team will be honored once again for their sportsmanship story that has traveled across the country and the world.
I even got a phone call this morning from my parents when they saw a story on the DeKalb boys basketball team on their local Fox affiliate in Tampa, Fla.
Do a quick Google search and you'll see the Barbs mentioned everywhere from New York City to Germany to Slovenia in newspapers as an example of how to play sports the right way after Darius McNeal purposely missed a pair of technical foul free throws. They were awarded after Milwaukee Madison's Johntell Franklin entered the basketball game and his name wasn't in the scorebook after his mother unexpectedly died that morning.
