The DeKalb Park District, in conjunction with the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and Illinois Association of Park Districts, recognized several agencies this past month with Community Service Awards.
Park Board president Matt Volk presented awards to the DeKalb County Community Foundation, the DeKalb Rotary Club, the Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club, and Steve and T.J. Irving, in recognition and appreciation of outstanding contributions for the advancement of parks, recreation and leisure in the community and the state of Illinois.
The DeKalb County Community Foundation has provided numerous grants to the district over the years, with the most recent grant for an accessible picnic area, which will be installed at Hopkins Park this spring.
The DeKalb Rotary Club was instrumental in the funding for the Rotary Park shelter and memorial. The club also hosts its annual fishing derby in Rotary Park.
The Kishwaukee Kiwanis have played a significant role in the development of the bike trail system in DeKalb.
Its members have donated their time for professional services and funding for the trails. Each year, the club sponsors Biking with Benzie for continued support of this program.
Steve and T.J. Irving’s generous donation made the renovation of the Hopkins Park Shelter possible.
